Imperial College London Hiring for Data Engineer Job at South Kensington, England Full Time

An opportunity for a Data Engineer has arisen at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Inflammation Repair and Development, South Kensington campus.

This exciting role is offered for 9 months in the first instance, with the possibility of an extension. You will be responsible for the management, storage curation and maintenance of UNICORN/BREATHING TOGETHER cohort data, including clinical, genetic environmental and biological data Integration management and harmonization of heterogeneous data assets.

You will also be involved in the novel processes of FAIRIFICATION of data, which is now a requirement of public funding organizations.

In addition, you will oversee the release of the cohort datasets to approved data sharing applicants in compliance with data governance regulations and act as a point of contact for data related queries concerning data quality and delivery.

The Data Engineer will support our software developers, data analysts and data scientists on data initiatives and will ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects. You must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products.

Duties and responsibilities

• Developing and implementing (e.g., in Python) ML techniques to understand, interpret and extract features from experimental datasets
• Assist in designing the harmonized model for UNICORN integrated datasets
• To curate and standardize existing datasets, manually and tool driven activities
• To apply FAIR data principles and tools to curate the extant research data across several databases
• Standardise the developed techniques as benchmarks, wherever possible,
• The data engineer will work with our UNICORN and STELAR collaborators, scientists, and hardware vendors for developing scalable ML solutions

Essential requirements

• MSc in a data intensive field such as data science, genetics, statistics epidemiology, bioinformatics, mathematics. computer science or electrical engineering in a or equivalent experience
• Experience in one of the following areas: Bayesian methods, machine learning, signal, or image processing.
• Experience in Python or other scientific programming languages (e.g., C++)
• Awareness of software engineering principles, with regard to robustness, portability, and usability
• You will be familiar with standard data management and some programming experience (C++ Python) with the ability to elicit and validate requirements as well as scripting, debugging and improving scripts
• Ability to work both as part of a team, and with a high degree of autonomy
