About the department
Cloudflare is a system spanning the globe, on a mission to make the internet better, safer, and more powerful everyday. With this goal in mind, our product teams have deployed thousands of containers—at an ever increasing rate.
As an engineer on one of our platform teams, you’ll be building the tools to help engineers deploy and operate the services that make Cloudflare work. Our mission is to provide a reliable, yet flexible, platform to help product teams release new software efficiently and safely. You’ll be building and operating the private cloud that Cloudflare developers leverage to build Cloudflare itself. Core platforms we operate at Cloudflare include:

What you’ll do
- Build software that automates, monitors, and measures the operation of large highly-available distributed systems.
- Participate in the constant cycle of knowledge sharing and mentoring, both within the team and with other internal teams that rely on our platform.
- Manage and develop some of the biggest clusters in the world.
- Research, build, and introduce cutting-edge technologies.
- Contribute back to the open source community and leave code better than we found it.
You will build tools to measure and improve availability, performance, uptime and response times. You will nurture a passion for an “automate everything” approach that makes systems failure-resistant and ready-to-scale. You’re passionate about improving the experience of our users.
What you’ll need
- You have experience with configuration management software, preferably Salt.
- You have strong operational skills and experience building and supporting Linux-based systems.
- You have solid experience with cluster management systems (Kubernetes, Mesos, Nomad)
- You have at least three years of experience working as a software engineer in any language, but especially in Go or Python.
- A firm grasp of IP networking, load balancing and DNS.
- You are confident in your knowledge with load balancers (nginx, HAProxy).
Bonus points if
- You have proven skills of designing, developing and delivering HA scalable production systems.
- You have strong experience designing and managing multi-tenant database solutions (Clickhouse, PostgreSQL, CockroachDB).
- You have practical knowledge of web and systems performance, extensively used tracing tools like ebpf and strace.
- You have previous experience managing observability tools like Prometheus, Thanos, Sentry, ELK, Grafana, Jaeger or other logging, metrics, and tracing systems.
- You have previous experience as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) at a large-scale company.

Working hours – 9am to 6pm
Rest period – Noon to 1pm
Holidays – Saturday, Sunday and National Holidays
Overtime – Overtime work may be required
