Yakima Valley College is accepting applications for a Student Success Coordinator in College & Career Readiness – Grandview. This is a full-time, exempt professional position, which includes a full state benefits package.
Reporting to the Dean for College & Career Readiness & Grandview Campus, and working in coordination with the CCR faculty, the Student Success Coordinator coordinates the implementation of a variety of navigation, coordination, and record-keeping related services for the Step Up to College program and students at YVC – Grandview.
Essential Tasks
Coordinate and support YVC’s Step Up To College (SUTC) events and activities focusing on serving students from the entrance through completion and helping students build self-identities as college students.
Conduct student workshops on learning skills, pathways, and other educational/career topics.
Provide student navigation services during the academic year and breaks between academic terms.
Assist in the development, preparation, and updating of SUTC materials.
Participate in outreach activities such as conducting workshops for high school students, parents, and community members at large.
Answer telephone inquiries and correspondence regarding SUTC entrance and participation requirements, college transition, and related information.
Interpret placement scores and student credit needs for HS completion.
Explain course offerings; provide and interpret information relating to institutional/ departmental policies and HS completion requirements.
Assist students in preparing their education plans.
May refer students to on-or-off campus services, maintain records of student progress and prepare reports as needed.
Cross-train with financial aid to support students in accessing information about their financial aid options, guide them in providing required documentation, and proactively reach out to students to ensure timely completion of financial aid applications and completion of files.
Initiate SUTC budget-related paperwork such as billing statements, supply requests, and travel authorizations.
Provide ongoing communication with representatives of partner school districts and off-campus organizations regarding the interpretation and implementation of the SUTC program and institutional policies.
Assist with Advising Day events.
Maintain participation data for SUTC students and prepare and present related reports in a timely fashion.
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Basic administrative procedures, office practices, and correspondence preparation
Microsoft Office Suite Program
ABILITY TO:
Plan and coordinate the operation of the office
Communicate clearly, collaboratively, and consistently
Meet deadlines, work independently, and balance a variety of priorities
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint.
Effective communication abilities, both verbal and written
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Earned Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
Experience with navigational support, case management, advising, registration/admissions, and/or tutoring in higher education.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Interest and understanding in creating an equitable and inclusive learning and working environment
Experience with trauma-informed educational strategies
