General Motors of Canada Company- St. Catharines Propulsion Plant, is inviting applications from Environmental Engineering students for 1 Co-Op/Internship position.The intern will be assigned to the environmental department for the entire duration 16 months.

Key Responsibilities
Coordinate ISO 14001 Environmental Management System
Coordinate site-wide departmental training on environmentally relevant ISO Task Instruction Sheets
Manage daily shipping manifests for Reg. 347 wastes
Develop and coordinate plant sustainability community outreach activities and environmental awareness programs i.e. Wildlife Habitat Certification/ World Environment Day/ Earth Week/ Waste Reduction Week
Support the implementation of plant sustainability initiatives and projects to meet GM Sustainability Commitments
Pursue new opportunities to increase environmental profile in the community
Conduct plant environmental inspections and coordinate follow-up activities
Support wastewater and storm water program in compliance with local by-laws and Ministry of the Environment Conservation and Parks Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECA)
Support environmental engineering and facility projects as assigned
Support plant waste management program in compliance with applicable legislation
Support zero waste to landfill activities, and actively pursue alternatives for waste diversion/reduction
Assist in analyzing monthly environmental performance metrics (Plan Do Check Act) and implement corrective actions to ensure compliance to target objectives
Support waste management contractor in resolving waste collection issues, and conducting regular waste audits
In conjunction with plant functional departments, assist in developing action plans to maintain compliance
Perform other responsibilities relating to air emissions, water quality, waste reduction/segregation, ecosystem enhancement, etc as required
Required Qualifications
Enrolled in an Environmental/Chemical/Civil/Materials Engineering Co-Op degree program, and in your 3rd or 4th year of study
Eligible to work full-time (40 hours per week) in Canada, and for a 16-month term (4 consecutive semesters) starting May 2022
In possession of a valid Full Class G Ontario driver’s licence (not G1/G2), or equivalent out of province licenc, and have access to a vehicle
Strong organizational, problem solving, and analytical skills
Highly adaptable with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
Ability to work with minimal direction, and encouraged to continually improve the operation of his/her area and equipment
The successful candidate will be required to attest to, and be prepared to provide proof of, their vaccination status and that any job offer will be conditional on the candidate being fully vaccinated
Preferred Qualifications
Past experience in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment
Knowledge and understanding of ISO 14001 and environmental legislation
