Overview of Department

Purpose of Role

We are looking for an experienced developer to join our CS&E (Client Service & Engagement) Continuous Improvement team within the Application Development department, to both design and deliver excellent solutions along with having a very strong customer focus. The candidate should possess a thorough understanding of the full software development process including collaborating with other project areas as well as Business Analysts, Developers, Testers on the team to enable delivery of applications.

The purpose of the CS&E Continuous Improvement team that this post is for is to provide ongoing support and service to multiple client facing business areas. Focusing on both strategic and tactical changes, automation, usability upgrades to systems and overall application performance as well as this contributing to wider projects and initiatives that have impacts on reporting requirements. The goal is to optimise existing client reporting applications so that they are functioning at their optimal level, creating a smooth end user experience.

The department is responsible for bespoke and packaged software development, focusing on applications that are essential to our business, and making sure that we are equipped with the technological tools we need to develop and grow.
Responsibilities

In joining the CS&E (Client Service & Engagement) Continuous Improvement team at Baillie Gifford, you will be involved in both designing and delivering excellent solutions along with having a very strong customer focus. You will be collaborating with the team and will be supported throughout, however you will also be expected to have some autonomy in your day to day work.

Knowledge, skills and experience

Qualifications: –

• Relevant, commercial experience

Experience and knowledge: –

Essential Skills:

• Good understanding of C# and .Net framework/.Net Core

• Experience with RESTful APIs

• Experience with database development (Oracle PL/Sql preferred although not required)

• Excellent working practices regarding processes and source control (TFVC, Git or similar)

• A focus on maintainability, robustness and performance when designing solutions

• Adapt to different technologies used on project and continuous improvement work

• Experience and knowledge of agile methodologies

• Ability to communicate well with business stakeholders and end users in collaboration with Business Analysts to establish requirements

• Able to build positive working relationships throughout the department and the company

• Excellent time management and multitasking skills

• Attention to detail along with the ability to explain or document ideas

• Can work independently given initial business requirements

• Can also work well within a team environment to collaborate, support and learn from others

Desirable:

• Winform experience

• Angular Development

• NET Core

• RESTful services

• Good to have exposure to one or more of Docker, Rancher, Kubernetes

• Exposure to OpenXML development

• Industry relevant experience or knowledge, specific to asset management
