ACCOUNTANT JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY
The Accountant is responsible for performing various accounting-related duties by utilizing generally accepted accounting principles, adhering to tax laws and regulatory compliance to properly reflect the financial position of the Bank and providing, analyzing, reconciling, and reporting accounting information from multiple systems, reports, and processes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Supports the Accounting Department in ensuring the smooth operation of the department by performing a variety of accounting duties to all assigned areas where service or assistance is needed.
2. Processes Federal Funds and EBA transactions.
3. Performs monthly certifications to ensure transaction balance to the general ledger; clears out non-posted items daily; ensures accuracy and proper documentation of transactions; performs quarterly surprise cash count certifications at all offices; and follows-up on out-of-balance items to resolve problems as necessary.
4. Processes accounts payable transactions; prepares and issues expense checks; and reconciles expense checks to issued statements and the general ledger.
5. Reconciles and balances correspondent due from and due to bank accounts and statements. Prepares entries to clear reconciling entries.
6. Compiles miscellaneous month end accounting and general ledger entries from general ledger reports.
7. Gathers and calculates data and prepares a variety of monthly, quarterly and annual reports for management; ensures reports are accurate, complete and prepared on schedule.
8. Records, files, scans documents, updates information, and sorts mail or reports as required.
9. Performs related clerical duties such as answering the telephone, taking messages or forwarding calls, copying, typing routine letters, envelopes and forms, and filing.
10. Provides assistance to auditors and examiners to include retrieving data requested and providing responses to questions.
11. Prepares Form 1099 miscellaneous.
12. Processes payroll; deposits payroll taxes; files payroll tax returns, prepares W-2’s, file/pay Workman’s Compensation
Premiums.
13. May cross-train less experienced Accounting Department personnel.
14. Responds to inquiries or refers inquiries to the appropriate department or person, and exhibiting the necessary follow through with clients and/or staff involved.

18. Completes administrative tasks correctly and on time; supports the Bank’s goals and values; benefits the Bank through outside activities.
19. Performs the position safely, without endangering the health or safety to themselves or others and will be expected to report potentially unsafe conditions. The employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations and orders issued pursuant to the OSHA Act of 1970, which are applicable to one’s own actions and conduct.

23. Clear G/L Rejects/Suspense Daily
24. Investigate and clear all application interface errors
25. Journalize and post monthly entries
26. Maintain Month End Files
27. Process Accounts Payable as required
28. Maintain Vendor Files
29. Outgoing Wire Transfer Processing to include call back and origination
30. Incoming Wire Transfer Processing
31. Daily Review of Specific Branch Reports
32. Assist with client inquiries when Branch staff is unavailable.
33. RDC Processing
34. Processing of Levies and Subpoenas
35. Review source input documents to determine if adjustments to client’s accounts were properly approved
36. Review source input documents to determine if deposit accounts were set upon in the Horizon system correctly
SECONDARY DUTIES
The position of Accounting Specialist performs duties specific to the position and other functions as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
The position of Accounting Specialist is not responsible for the supervision of any employee(s).
ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
The incumbent is in a non-confined office-type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will. The position includes driving a Bank or personal owned vehicle approximately one percent of the time which includes exposure to the outside weather elements and moving mechanical parts. It may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc.
The incumbent in the course of performing this position spends time writing, typing, speaking, listening, lifting (up to 15 pounds), driving, carrying, seeing (such as close, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and adjusted focus), sitting, pulling, walking, standing, squatting, kneeling and reaching.
The incumbent for this position may operate any or all of the following: telephone, smart phone, copy and fax machines, adding machine (calculator), check protector, scanner and image systems, scanning equipment, encoder, money counter, credit card terminal, typewriter, computer terminal, laptop computer, personal computer, tablet, printers, or other equipment as directed.
