About This Role:

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Community Tribe in Winnipeg. At Atolls, your role will be instrumental in leading a high-performing engineering team and shaping how users discover deals and advice through advanced search capabilities.

As a key part of our team, you will drive the evolution from keyword-based search to intent-based discovery, building scalable systems that leverage community data and modern AI technologies.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and develop a team of 6-7 engineers, fostering engagement, performance, and continuous growth through feedback, coaching, and structured development.
• Define and drive the technical strategy for search systems, including vectorization, AI integration, and scalable architecture decisions.
• Collaborate closely with Product to translate business goals into a clear and executable technical roadmap.
• Ensure operational excellence by maintaining system reliability, performance, and cost efficiency across platforms.
• Optimize team processes using data insights to improve delivery speed, reduce bottlenecks, and ensure sustainable output.
• Act as a bridge between engineering and business stakeholders, communicating technical decisions and aligning expectations.

Your Profile:

We’re looking for someone with engineering leadership and backend development experience, who is dedicated to building scalable systems and leading high-performing teams.

• Technical Skills: PHP, Laravel, MySQL, cloud platforms (AWS or GCP), experience with search technologies or AI/LLM integration is a plus.
• Soft Skills: Leadership, communication, stakeholder management, problem-solving, ownership, mentoring.
• Language requirements: Fluent in English; other languages are a plus.
