It’s Tuesday morning. Armed with a coffee, you log into Salesforce. First up are your calls to the Far East where it’s already late afternoon. There’s a legal executive in Malaysia who’s interested in the LLB in law and a Chinese teacher looking at the BSc in Psychology to make a career change. Then later today, you’ll be talking to a Swiss student who wants to transfer from his current university. He wants to know if he’ll get any exemptions. You’ll also need to follow up with a nice Police Call Handler from Manchester who enquired last week, thinking of enrolling on the Bachelors in Criminal Psychology so she can advance her career in the force. Like many of our students before they enrol, she’s nervous about going back to study and needs a bit of reassurance and guidance.

Summary of Role

Welcome to a day in the life of an Admissions Adviser at Kaplan Open Learning. We are working in partnership with University of Essex and University of Liverpool to deliver 100% online and part time degrees to students from all around the world. Our students complete their degrees using our online resources, undertaking web-based tutorials and lectures on our virtual learning platform. We recently achieved 89% student satisfaction in the National Student Survey (2020) and we take pride in providing a first-class learning experience for our students. This pride starts from the first contact we make with our prospective students– which is where you, as an Admissions Adviser, come in.

As an Admissions Adviser, you’ll be helping prospective students to make the right choices about their education. You’ll provide information about what’s involved in studying towards an online degree course, answer questions on how to pay for a course as well as advising about the requirements for admission onto a programme. You’ll engage with customers about the benefits of the programmes and the kind of career opportunities that the programmes have opened up for past students. You’ll have to balance speed of response and getting through a high volume of enquiries with providing the right level of personal attention to each customer. And we promise that as you talk and type your way through the day, engaging with our diverse customer base, you won’t have time to check your watch.

Core Responsibilities and Tasks

• Follow up enquiries received via our websites or through agents following documented processes.
• Advise prospective students on entry requirements, funding and course structures and sell the benefits of our online higher education programmes.
• Generate application forms, rejection and offer letters through the student management system.
• Interview prospective students and their employers to assess eligibility against defined criteria.
• Make recommendations to the admissions managers on eligibility.
• Ensure the required documentation and payments are in place before enrolment.
• Any other duties agreed with line manager.
• Lead by example through demonstrating integrity, professionalism and a commitment to the organisation’s values.
