Snr Software Engineer – Data Products (Python or JavaScript) – Remote/UK

£90 – 95k basic

My client, an award-winning Publishing House is looking for a Senior Software Engineer with experience working with big data to join their cutting edge Data Team, working with machine learning and leveraging their data lake and in-house analytics platform.

100% home based or 1-2 days in Central London (your choice) !

We are friendly, highly collaborative and we design and maintain our own solutions, from concept to deployment – including monitoring and reporting – using a combination of technologies.

We are looking for someone with previous experience working in an agile environment, ideally with prior experience working in cross functional squads, who can help mentor and support the team through scoping, planning, estimation and developing solutions.

We are looking for someone able to leverage their experience working with software development and big data to design, build and deploy solutions and ensure we plan work effectively and that appropriate documentation, schemas, tests and testing strategies are in place to support the team and the products we develop and maintain.

Projects you will have the opportunity to work on include:

Next Best Action (NBA) – we use Machine Learning models, driven by big data, to optimise the user experience and revenue on our sites in real time

HiveAlpha – our award winning editorial analytics platform used by editors, journalists and commercial teams to view trending stories and access statistics for publications, articles and authors and social media activity on our publications and competitor sites

Data pipelines, graph databases and our real time analytics platform, helping us understand the activity of millions of users and from billions of page views per month

The Ideal Candidate

Skilled in software development using Python and/or JavaScript

Experienced in using AWS via the web console and programmatically (infrastructure-as-code) e.g. CloudFormation, EC2, ASG, Lambda, Kinesis, Docker

We are looking for someone with previous experience working in an agile environment, ideally with prior experience working in cross functional squads, who can help mentor and support the team through scoping, planning, estimation and developing solutions.

We are looking for someone able to leverage their experience working with software development and big data to design, build and deploy solutions and ensure we plan work effectively and that appropriate documentation, schemas, tests and testing strategies are in place to support the team and the products we develop and maintain.

Able to suggest and implement improvements to automation, monitoring, integration and unit testing, deployment pipelines, system architecture and documentation.
