Data Analyst, Health Full Time

The Ontario HIV Treatment Network (OHTN), established in 1998, is a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals living with and at risk of HIV. Our mission is driven by the strategic use of data and evidence to inform and influence positive change within the community and healthcare systems. About The Role

The Analyst, Health Data position plays a vital role within the Ontario HIV Treatment Network, supporting the Ontario Cohort Study (OCS), which prospectively follows approximately 4,500 people living with HIV across Ontario. The primary focus of this role is to facilitate data acquisition, processing, and quality assurance activities to ensure the integrity and usability of complex health data. The analyst will develop and maintain comprehensive data documentation, including data dictionaries and maps, and collaborate with various stakeholders to optimize data collection tools, such as questionnaires and electronic medical records (EMR). This position involves regular testing of data systems, coordinating with multiple sites to ensure data consistency, and supporting data analysis efforts for research and reporting purposes. The role requires a proactive individual with strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment. The successful candidate will contribute to improving data quality, supporting research initiatives, and ultimately enhancing health outcomes for people living with HIV in Ontario.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in epidemiology, public health, health sciences, health services research methodology, biostatistics, or related fields
• Minimum of 2 years of applied experience working with ‘real-world’ health data
• Proficiency in programming languages such as SAS, SQL, R, or similar
• Experience in creating and maintaining data documentation, including data dictionaries and SOPs
• Hands-on experience with data cleaning, quality control, and assurance processes
• Familiarity with version control software such as GIT (asset)
• Experience working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) data (asset)
• Knowledge of epidemiological research design, data collection, and analysis techniques
• Understanding of database systems and information technology tools
• Knowledge of ETL processes and data pipeline creation (asset)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment

Responsibilities

• Support data acquisition activities by developing and maintaining data dictionaries, maps, and documentation
• Collaborate on questionnaire development, including variable definition, response options, skip logic, and version control
• Gather and incorporate feedback from site partners to improve data collection tools for language, formatting, accessibility, and cultural relevance
• Coordinate with OCS sites to ensure data format, quality, and consistency of electronic medical record (EMR) data
• Create, update, and maintain manuals and SOPs related to data collection, clinical chart abstraction, and data management
• Participate in regular training sessions to enhance data collection and management practices
• Conduct data quality assurance activities, including data cleaning, normalization, and standardization procedures
• Support data analysis requests, including generating data cuts for research and reporting purposes
• Assist in statistical analysis for reports, conference presentations, and academic publications
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of data systems and processes within the team
• Perform additional duties as required to support the OCS project and organizational objectives
