JOB SUMMARY: The Adult Basic Education (ABE) Instructor provides instructional support to adult learners in primary and secondary education levels by assisting them with mastering technology, workplace readiness, and workplace literacy skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains office services by:
Designs and delivers class curriculum that fosters mastery of technology and workplace readiness training, which includes functional life skills; workplace literacy skills, which includes basic literacy skills, for adult learners in primary and secondary education levels
Develops lesson plans according to the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) competencies.
Develops Individual Employment Plan/Individual Support Plan goals.
Reviews adult learner Individual Education Plan, Individual Support Plan, and Behavior Support Plan quarterly.
Integrates technology such as computers, LCD projector, overhead projector, calculators, and other adaptive equipment into class instruction.
Facilitates and supports students in computer instruction using tools like Kentucky Educational Television, Blackboard, Phillip Roy, Inc. Basic Skills, and PLATO systems software.
Provides weekly/monthly reports of adult learner progress to Program Manager; documents measurable goal attainment.
Encourages students to achieve personal outcomes and to become empowered in literacy and independence.
Completes monthly, quarterly, and/or annual reports to document program participant activities and progress toward reaching their specified Individual Support Plan/Individual Education Plan goals.
Participates in monthly employment team meetings and/or team meetings to address program status, behavior concerns, goal updates, etc. for the current and upcoming Individual Support Plan year.
Provides some case management/wrap around supportive services to program participants and Employment Specialists with consistent and timely follow-up to identify barriers and challenges. Assists in the accomplishment of identified Individual Support Plan/Individual
Education Plan goals for program participants. Links students to community resources that promote self-sufficiency.
Serves as advisor to students and provides academic tutorial supports, as needed.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation or other appropriate area. Master’s degree preferred.
At least 2 years work experience specific to disabilities with knowledge of substance abuse, mental health, and case management/rehabilitation field.
SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:
Proficient in MS Office software, Excel, Power Point, use of Internet and e-mail.
Effective communication skills, written and verbal.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from the general public.
