• Financial Analyst with one of Sydney’s largest Councils

• 6 month fixed term contract

A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Financial Analyst to provide expert level analytical support to one of Sydney’s largest Local Government Organisations.

The position is a fixed term contract of 6 months and will assist in the preparation of financial budgets and forecasts with both short-and long-term views, providing insight and analysis on Council’s operating performance. The role also plays a key role in assisting service unit managers manage the financial operations within their areas of responsibility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborate with Managers to support their interpretation of financial data and reports to improve their understanding of the reasons behind their function’s performance and results.
• Present and interpret complex financial information and analysis to support organisation decision-making.
• Provide detailed analysis and commentary on cost centre results to support insights and interpretation of the data.
• Model short-and long-term strategies, planning, and business cases to ensure the financial viability of CoP plans and projects.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to assist preparation of the Operational Budget, Quarterly review, and analysis of financial and non-financial data (e.g payroll data) including public reporting and internal presentations.

Qualifications

• Business, Finance or Commerce Degree with a major in Accounting or similar.
• CA or CPA qualification.

Experience

• Sound and quantifiable experience in the understanding of business analysis and business partnering.

Skills

• Advanced competence in utilising business intelligence tools to deliver meaningful insights into business performance.
• Management accounting skill to apply the principles of budgeting and forecasting to effective business planning and performance measurement.
• Sound finance business partnering ability to appreciate needs and opportunities and provide feedback into the finance function.
• Strong ability to communicate, negotiate, build relationships, and influence others with an engaging approach and technique.
• Advanced user of MS Excel with the ability to: work with multiple worksheets, filter data, use integrate functions, and manipulate databases; connect to external data; develop complex pivot tables; deploy compound, complex formulas such as array formulas, nested if formulas, lookup functions; build complex models, dashboards and user-input templates; and record and edit macros.
