Commercial Finance Analyst

Role Purpose

Responsible for supporting the Marketing Director and the wider Marketing team to drive segment performance in the Local Pubs business. This will involve analysis and understanding of performance trends, weekly and periodic performance updates, evaluation of key marketing activity and ensuring delivery of marketing spend budgets.

Key Accountabilities

• Partner Marketing Director/Team in preparing robust activity plans and quantifying expectations.
• Ensure key decisions that affect the performance of the Local Pubs segments are rigorously evaluated (pre and post); encompassing marketing activity, pricing/ranging and promotional plans.
• Ensure that the Marketing Director/Team are provided with timely and proactive analysis on the performance of their segments, encompassing sales (volume and spend), margin and marketing spend.
• Ensure the marketing spend budget for each brand is robust and expenditure is controlled appropriately.
• Proactively highlight any risks or opportunities to the delivery of the budget/forecast for sales and margin for each brand.
• Providing financial insight and challenge at the appropriate Marketing review forums and ensuring consistent support/messaging and agreement across the wider Finance team.
• Work closely with the Pricing team to ensure the robust analysis of menus and drinks pricing/range changes and to aid communication to the Marketing teams.
• Broader review of all sales driving activity and expenditure across the Local Pubs business, to ensure we are investing wisely and have efficiency and focus on what drives benefit in pub.
• Provide support to key projects and ad hoc analyses as required.
• Involvement in the Period End P&L and annual planning processes, with ownership of marketing and sales driving expenditure.

About You

• Experience in commercially facing finance roles, preferably in retail businesses.
• Qualified or studying towards relevant accounting qualification (CIMA / ACCA).
• Expert user in Excel and Cognos would be beneficial.
• Naturally enquiring mind with the ability to provide clear, concise analyses and recommendations.
• Proactive team player who wants to ‘do the right thing’ to improve the performance of the business.
• Excellent communication skills, with a natural ability to explain and present financial data in simple ways.
• Confident in challenging non-finance colleagues based on a combination of robust analysis/insight and experience.
• Ability to deliver to tight deadlines, despite varied and competing priorities.
• Attention to detail.
• Agility – flex & balance, take decisive and timely action.
