About the role

We have a really rare opportunity for a Junior Android developer to work on the highly regarded Australia Post App (it’s been more than 4 years since we last hired an Android Developer in our team).The app has previously won a customer experience award, has been the #1 app in the business category many times and has over 1.1 million active users on Android alone.

As an Associate Software Engineer you will be working in Product Innovation & Engineering area at Australia Post, building new and exciting tool to support our growing Parcels Business. You will be responsible for development activities required to deliver major projects by carrying out software development work in accordance with appropriate standards.

You will have some experience in Kotlin, Java, Angular or React and working in AWS environment and also:

• Hands on experience building one or more an-droid apps that have gone live
• Experience in designing, developing, supporting and maintaining cloud (AWS) native applications.
• Understanding of source code management and CI/CD principles allowing application source code to be built, packaged, versioned and deployed.
• Demonstrated experience with automation testing frameworks to test functional and integration requirements at code level – Junit, Mockito, Selenium WebDriver, Cucumber.
• Demonstrated experience with using technical practices such as writing clean, testable code, TDD and pair programming Software development experience using secure coding practices to mitigate common vulnerabilities.

What will you be doing?

• Responsible for undertaking development activities required to deliver technology solutions that meet the business needs
• Contribute to the estimation, design, build and testing of software components
• Apply critical thinking to solve problems across the development lifecycle
• Work closely with Senior Developers and Technical Lead to implement solution aligned with solution architecture and consistent with industry and Australia Post enterprise standards
• Translate UI/UX designs into high quality code
• Develop features while following coding standards and writing tests
• Problem solver, fix bugs & crashes

You will have:

• Understanding of enterprise s/w development practices
• Core programming skills & knowledge
• Competent user of all tools in the SDLC
• Understands fundamentals of security and accessibility
• Some exposure of Angular or React frontend development framework
• Exposure to AWS services such as EC2, RDS, ElasticCache, S3, SQS/SNS, etc
• Exposure of one or more CI/CD tools such as Bitbucket, Bamboo, AWS Codebuild, Code Pipeline, GitLab, etc
• Exposure to Java based Microservices
• Basic understanding how a database works
• Basic understanding how to call APIs via HTTP
• Hands on experience building one or more an-droid apps that have gone live.
