As a Software Asset Management (SAM) member of the Service Asset & Configuration team, you will play a key part in the management, control and governance of organisational, project and service assets and artefacts. You will help optimise the total cost of ownership and sustainability by minimising operating costs, improving investment decisions and capitalising on potential opportunities.

Your role will underpin the delivery of the tools our users need to access and engage with services.

You will have a good understanding of the Home Office technical estate and services and apply it to day-to-day tasks and processes.

You will build strong relationships across IT Operations and the outputs of your work will be used to support other key services such as Incident, Problem, Request Fulfilment and Change so that end-users have a seamless service management experience.

Responsibilities

Your main day to day responsibilities will be (but not limited to):

• Assessing the introduction and management of software to ensure its compliance, optimise its use and provide recommendations which support strategic direction and drive value for money.

• Providing reporting of compliance and financial positions and making recommendations to senior team members so they are able to make decisions on the financial and legal aspects of licensing, particularly regarding cost efficiencies.

• Maintaining a record of all Software Media (paper and electronic) used within the Home Office using a Definitive Media Library.

• Assisting with software compliance exercises and audits, owning and taking responsibility for smaller agreements.

• Recording and reviewing requests for SAM support on procurement, change and project notifications and then responding in line with SAM policies and processes.

• Maintaining Contracts, Entitlement, Maintenance and Renewal documentation and facilitating renewal validation, in line with Home Office policies.

• Extracting and analysing discovery information from multiple data sources.

You will also be expected to carry out the following day to day activities:

• Identifying and mitigating risks to the service, taking responsibility for monitoring and updating the risk register and escalating where necessary.

• Inputting into SACM policies and procedures in line with best practice and under supervision.

• Contributing to continual service improvements through the measurement and challenge of services and processes, tools and capability and making suggestions where appropriate.

• Building and maintain relationships with Home Office Digital, Data and Technology (HO DDaT), Home Office and external stakeholders (customers, colleagues and suppliers).

• Contributing to the work of the community, building successful teams through understanding team styles and influencing as well as motivating team members.

• Working with ‘Cross Government SAM Liaison Group’, sharing best practice and lessons learned in order to build a community.

Essential Criteria

You will have a demonstrable passion for Service Asset & Configuration Management, with the following skills or strong experience in:

• Ability to work as part of a team and to engage effectively with team members, suppliers and other teams.

• Strong sense of ownership and drive to follow tasks through to completion, as well as proactivity to spot where areas need improvement.

• Good interpersonal skills, with an ability to manage stakeholder expectations and to communicate effectively and professionally, whether they are technical or non-technical individuals.

• Knowledge of systems, software and hardware that would make up a large organisation, with a willingness to learn new technologies and maintain industry knowledge.

• Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with interest in developing data manipulation skills.

• Demonstrable Commercial awareness.

Desirable Criteria

Ideally you will also have the following skills or some experience in:

• Understanding and / or experience of adhering to ITILv3 / v4 processes and procedures.

• Understanding and / or experience of working in a SIAM model.

• Knowledge of major project methodologies and their application e.g. Agile.

• Applying commercial awareness and supporting a portfolio of licensing agreements across a complex IT estate.
