We are seeking a senior financial executive with 10+ years of broad nonprofit financial management and operations experience. Reporting to the President and CEO and in partnership with the Board of Directors, the VP will function as both our Chief Financial and Chief Operating Officer. In the absence of the President and CEO, the VP will oversee all BAA Foundation operations.
In partnership with the President and CEO and the Board Treasurer, this hands-on leader will supervise a small staff and regularly work with the Board of Directors, especially the Audit, Investment, and Finance Committees. In conjunction with the President and CEO, the VP will play a critical role in identifying, recommending and implementing new processes, technologies, and systems to improve and streamline all operational aspects of the BAA Foundation.
The role: Financial Management
Provide comprehensive financial and accounting oversight to the BAA Foundation.
Spearhead the annual planning process, budget creation, and explain the assumptions built in the budget.
Connect the strategy to the numbers. Able to tell the story and explain the logic behind the numbers.
Manage all accounting, IT and human resources functions.
Communicate and present critical financial matters to various audiences.
Develop and implement processes for efficient finance workflow between the Foundation and BAA school.
Lead the annual audit process.
Administrative Management
Collaborate with the President and CEO to develop and meet Foundation goals, while supplying expertise and guidance on operations projects and systems.
Possess the skills, sensitivity, and personal confidence to tap into the power that each member of the team brings to our mission.
Assist the President and CEO in nurturing and growing a world class Foundation.
Create and implement effective measurement tools to gauge the efficiency and effectiveness of internal and external processes.
Forge strategic partnerships and relationships with board members, donors, vendors, financial institutions, and other professional business relationships.
Lead the performance management process that measures and evaluates progress against individual and organizational goals.
In partnership with the President and CEO and BAA Foundation’s pro bono legal counsel, review and draft complex legally binding contracts or instruments such as gift agreements and related documents.
Assist the President and CEO in negotiating favorable contract terms and conditions.
Manage third party IT vendor. Keep up to date on emerging technologies and trends in operations management.
Provide strategic leadership in Human Resources, including recruitment, onboarding, orientation, training, and termination.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in finance or accounting required.
Non-profit accounting experience and CPA preferred.
Director level public or private leadership experience.
Skills
Exceptional leadership qualities, able to think on the fly, maintain a strong command of the financial and accounting nmbers, experience working with a Board of Directors.
Able to navigate in a challenging fundraising market, work with sophisticated donors, tackle tough questions.
Fun, creative, flexible, and confident. Not afraid to say “don’t know” or make a mistake. Open to new ideas.
Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to translate financial concepts to and collaborate with colleagues without finance backgrounds.
Technology savvy with experience in selecting and overseeing software implementation – Blackbaud Cloud Management System, Raiser’s Edge, Financial Edge.
Advanced knowledge of Excel and Blackbaud Financial Edge is strongly preferred.
