As an Embedded Software Engineer, part of your responsibilities is to contribute to completion of specific programs and projects. Also, provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems, solutions that are imaginative, thorough, practicable and consistent with organization objectives, contribute to completion of specific programs and projects and frequent inter-organizational and outside peer contacts.

• Reports individual progress of all activities to project management.
• Evaluates design options against technical & project criteria.
• Work in an integrated multiple discipline team to resolve design issues.
• Keeping design records of software development in line with departmental requirements.
• Manages personal multiple tasks.
• Active participation in design reviews.
• Design, simulate, test & record results to verify the system / sub system requirements have been met.
• Work with appropriate software development tools such as source control, defect and task tracking applications
• Seek to improve the software development process by actively seeking new tools and techniques
• Actively communicate with software peers, other disciplines and the wider Smiths Detection community.
• Responsible for health and safety of self & others.
• Attend training to develop relevant knowledge & skills e.g. new computer languages, software tools and techniques
• Work with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of products and documentation requirements.
• Follows policies, processes, and standards to achieve excellence the discipline.
• Ensures adherence to business policies, Legal requirements, Ethics.

• Software Engineering Degree 2/1 or 2/2 level or similar engineering degree
• Must have experience of developing for RTOS, Bare Metal and Linux embedded target environments
• Must have knowledge of resolving cybersecurity issues
• Must have knowledge of Agile development methodologies, particularly Scrum
• Must have knowledge of networking technologies
• Good knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle & Software Engineering techniques
• Software developmental experience of technical products
• Experience of object-oriented programming
• Strong C++, C & Python
• Clear communicator, innovator, and analyser
• Personal responsibility for planning, organizing, implementing own tasks
• Normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work, general instructions on new assignments.
• Work is reviewed upon completion by peers for adequacy in meeting objectives.
