Working for one of Australia’s most recognisable financial services brands, an opportunity exists for an insurance accountant who has project management experience, specifically related to IFRS 17.

Your new role

As Manager of the General Insurance Finance Separation team, you will contribute to the implementation of the new insurance accounting standards (IFRS 17). You will work collaboratively with other internal project team members and external consultants and maintain a strong focus on impacts of the new accounting standards to financial control, reporting and relevant business processes. In addition, you will be responsible for:

• Contribute to the selection, design and configuration of the company’s IFRS 17 solution.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of changes to end-to-end business processes for IFRS 17 build.
• Support the Senior Manager by providing technical accounting advice and direction to assist with the design of appropriate solution to meet both tactical and strategic IFRS 17 solutions.
• Support the Senior Manager in preparing IFRS 17 related accounting papers for the relevant project and Board Committees.
• Research and collaboration with external accounting consulting firm and industry peers on industry/generally accepted approach in adopting IFRS 17.
• Analysing and documenting the impact of IFRS 17 to ensure compliance to the standards and seamless transition of the business.
• Preparing proforma financial statements and transition disclosures.

What you’ll need to succeed

• Graduate/ Postgraduate qualifications in finance, business or economics as well as being CA or CPA qualified.
• Highly developed analytical skills, strong level of commercial acumen with proven project management experience.
• Insurance experience is a must (3 years+).

• Strong financial control and regulatory reporting experience.

• Experience in various aspects of general insurance including financial and regulatory. accounting requirements (AASB/IFRS/APRA), business drivers and knowledge of the way in which actuarial inputs impact the financials.
• A mind for problem solving, and simplifying complex processes using a structured and logical approach.
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills and critical thinking skills.
