Royal School for the Deaf Derby is a unique provider of day and residential placements for deaf children and young people. We are committed to promoting a positive sense of identity and making sure pupils of all abilities achieve their potential.
The role has a specific focus on supporting teaching and learning through use of a positive range of options and strategies to effect behaviour change for individual and small groups of learners. British Sign Language Level 2 (or native user) and an appropriate underpinning qualification in supporting teaching and learning for the children’s workforce are highly desirable though opportunities for training are available.
All teaching and learning is supported by a team of competent and committed in-house specialists including Specialist Speech and Language Therapy, Teachers of the Deaf, Educational Audiologist and a wider team qualified and competent education assistants.
The School is committed to work life balance. All education assistants enjoy a working week based on 32.5 hours (full time equivalent), 13 weeks paid holiday leave entitlement and a personalised continuing professional development plan.
This role is a Regulated Activity under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act. The person appointed will be expected to fully participate in the school’s proactive approach to safeguarding vulnerable groups and complete an application for an enhanced criminal record disclosure.
