Salary Range $71,280 to $82,080 per annum + 10% Super + RDO

Melton City Council has an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Accountant focusing on financial management in a local government. The candidate must be service orientated with a solid understanding of financial concepts, possess the capacity to work in a team, have an analytical approach and demonstrate excellent communication skills.

The candidate should currently be in the final semester of or have completed a degree in Commerce, Accounting or related discipline.

Key Responsibilities

Complete allocated financial reporting deliverables accurately within deadlines.

• Undertake adhoc financial analysis including variance analysis as directed by the coordinator of manager.
• Assist in the preparation of Annual Financial Statements and Budget.
• Support Finance team with adhoc monthly tasks such as reconciliations, journals, accruals and accounts payable tasks.
• Support Revenue and Procurement teams with daily tasks during peak periods such as purchasing, accounts payable, acquisitions, revenue collection and accounts receivable activities.
• Prepare draft financial reports as directed.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

• Currently undertaking or completed a degree in Commerce, Accounting or related discipline.
• Knowledge of Accounting Standards and Finance related principles.
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrate excellent time management/organisational skills.
• Demonstrated experience in various computer packages in particular Microsoft Office Excel and internet application.
• Confidently deal with internal and external stakeholders on basic finance matters.
• Effectively plan, organise and manage your own time to achieve targets within a set timetable.
