THE POSITION
The Special Education Supervisor shall act as a resource specialist to professional and technical personnel in the specified programs; facilitate instructional programs; assess and determine program needs; implement program objectives; serve as a liaison with other agencies; liaise with parents of students with disabilities and conduct inservice training. The position requires specialized subject matter expertise in education and significant, directly related experience. Knowledge is applied to analytical problem solving, usually under prescribed and widely used principles and concepts. Under general direction, the Special Education Supervisor makes decisions of considerable consequence, impacting highly specialized and technical areas of the organization requiring the application and interpretation of data, facts, procedures, and policies. This position supervises other professionals such as teachers, therapists and associated special education staff and meets mostly with parents, principals, assistant principals, teachers, and other internal staff to coordinate information and activities regarding data, policies, and procedures.
LOCATION
Office and Program Locations for Expatiate Communications throughout LA and Orange Counties.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following for the targeted population:
·Assist professional and paraprofessional personnel in diagnostic, evaluative, and instructional activities.
·Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of a variety of curriculum activities.
·Meet with committees and discuss recommended changes; provide guidance and advice to teachers and administrators.
·Assist in the development and procurement of instructional materials and equipment.
·Writes and conducts instructional and academic programs; IEP Meetings, determine options and alternatives; consult with other professional staff; observe and work with teachers; monitor students’ curriculum progress.
·Assist in the planning, development, and implementation of staff development and inservice training; provide teachers and other education staff with support material and resources.
·Monitor schedules and requirements of state laws, rules, and regulations related to the specified program; process and complete documentation; provide input; plan program activities.
·Write and edit field support materials which will facilitate the delivery of instructional and academic programs.
·Consult with other professional staff and consultants regarding programs to which they are assigned.
·Participate in consultation and service to school agencies.
·Assist in providing training workshops, conferences, and inservices.
·Respond to school agencies’ requests for new or revised programs and services.
·Prepare specialized brochures, surveys, and other descriptive promotional materials for local, state, and national distribution.
·Serve as a liaison with support personnel and other public and private agencies; assist in maintaining follow-up and referral service.
.May conduct special education assessments, IEPs and direct provision of SAI services
·Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
·Techniques, methods, and resources in assessing, instructing, and evaluating behavior problems related to the targeted population.
·Principles, practices, and techniques applicable to all special education programs.
·Laws, codes, regulations, and requirements pertaining to the specified program.
·Applicable research, evaluation, and assessment practices and guidelines.
·Experience with pupils with a diagnosis of emotional disturbance and severe disabilities.
·Staff development and inservice methods and techniques.
·Curriculum and instructional program trends.
·Learning disabilities and behavioral management techniques and methods.
·Educational techniques and resources utilized in testing, assessing, and evaluating students.
·Principles, practices, and techniques applicable to the service program.
Ability to:
·Assist in the development and implementation of staff development and inservice programs.
·Plan, coordinate, and lead a variety of meetings, workshops, and conferences.
·Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and groups.
·Identify and analyze complex problems and recommend viable solutions.
·Plan, organize, and implement curriculum programs.
·Develop and implement behavior assessment and modification plans.
·Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Any combination of education and experience that would be likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Three or more years of directly related and progressive teaching experience in special education with mild to moderate or Mod/Sev student populations with different disabilities.
Education:
A Master’s degree in special education from an institution of higher learning accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
REQUIRED LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possess and maintain a valid California credential authorizing service as a special education teacher or educational specialist for mild to moderate or moderate to severe disabilities. BCLAD certification is desirable. Dual credentials for both mild/ moderate and moderate/severe is very highly desirable.
A preliminary or clear administrative credential is highly preferred.
The position is eligible for full employer-paid benefits, car and phone stipend and an annual bonus plan.
