We now have an opportunity available for a Project Accountant to join our passionate and customer focussed finance team. Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner this position will work closely and collaborate with our medical researchers to assist with all their project accounting needs.

We are seeking someone on a full-time basis and fixed term for a period of 3 years.

The Role
Reporting to the Senior Finance Business Partner, your time will be spent on the financial management of various cost centres with a focus on a particular area of research. You will also work with and be mentored by the applicable Finance Business Partner to assist with the building and maintaining of key relationships and the provision of budgeting and financial advice. Your day-to-day tasks will include:

• Ensure new projects are set up in a timely manner and that appropriate supporting documentation is on file.
• Regular monitoring of project end dates and the subsequent close-out of projects within the finance system.
• Management of internal transfers of expenditure and service charges between projects.
• Upskilling and educating researchers in best practice financial management.
• Building of key relationships to understand the research, and project background, then subsequently correcting system errors you notice from the knowledge you have gained.
• Identifying, analysing, and providing recommendations to resolve financial issues that are aligned to Telethon Kids Institute’s priorities.
• Grant application, and post-award budgeting under the supervision of a finance business partner.

Your Experience
You will be an enthusiastic finance professional with a relevant tertiary qualification in accounting or finance or a similar discipline, who thrives under pressure whilst handling competing priorities.

The key to your success will be your demonstrated experience in building meaningful relationships and cultivating existing relationships as well as:

• Excellent project planning, coordination, and evaluation skills.
• Ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
• Experience at working independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
• Strong computer, organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• A genuine interest in and desire to learn about medical research, and the industry in which medical researchers operate.
• Intermediate to advanced MS Excel Skills, and experience with finance systems (ideally Microsoft Business Central)
• A provisional member of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand; CPA Australia; the Institute of Public
• Accountants and working towards full membership.

The successful candidates will be asked to provide a satisfactory National Police Check and Proof of working rights in Australia prior to commencement.
