Overview
We are seeking a responsible and dependable Bus Chaperone to oversee student safety and behaviour during transport. This role involves ensuring a secure environment on the bus while assisting with organisational duties related to student travel. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to student welfare whilst developing your skills in transportation and safety management.

Duties

• Meet and greet pupils and their parents as they board the buses.
• Support all pupils especially those new to using the service
• Assist pupils in finding a seat and ensure they are wearing seatbelts
• Liaise with parents at pick-up/ drop-off times, as necessary
• Liaise with the MGS transport co-ordinator about any delays, diversions or issues arising
• Maintain good order during the journey ensuring pupils remain safe: wearing seatbelts and remaining seated at all times when the bus is moving.
• Ensure students are behaving appropriately: noise levels should be reasonable, phones are not to be used (unless previously agreed), and pupils should display polite behaviour at all times. Enforce these points by patrolling the bus at regular intervals. Any poor behaviour should be addressed immediately with a warning.
• Should poor behaviour escalate or continue, report to the transport manager with clear details.
• Bus staff are expected to maintain a professional and courteous demeanor at all times.

Qualifications

• A clear Enhanced EDBS check for working with vulnerable adults and children.
• Strong communication skills in English, capable of effectively liaising with students, drivers, and office/school staff
• Experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle behavioural challenges professionally
• Good organisational skills to manage multiple responsibilities during transit periods

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £12.71 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

• Manchester M31 4RA: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

• Enhanced DBS certificate (required)
