Starting salary would be £51,668 with the maximum salary on this scale being £61,617 subject to future COPFS pay awards.

About the Proceeds of Crime and Serious and Organised Crime Unit

The Proceeds of Crime Unit is a multi-disciplinary operational unit of the Serious Casework Group function. The aim of the criminal confiscation provisions of the Proceeds of Crime legislation is to allow the court, following upon a conviction, to make a confiscation order requiring an accused to pay a fixed sum of money reflecting the benefit obtained from either particular criminal conduct or, in appropriate cases, from a criminal lifestyle.The Serious and Organised Crime Unit was established to ensure that COPFS can respond robustly to the threat posed by serious and organised crime and to reflect the priorities and the strategy set by the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce, which is co-chaired by the Lord Advocate and the Cabinet Secretary for Justice.

About the Role

The post-holder will be responsible for progression of their own case load whilst being flexible to the business needs of POCU and SOCU Key duties will include but are not limited to: Case delivery and management:

• Analysis and review of financial information, together with supporting evidence, submitted by Law Enforcement Agencies in relation to both criminal investigations and Confiscation proceeds arising under Proceeds of Crime legislation
• Examination of reports and other evidence submitted by defence solicitors and defence accountants.
• Advising own team and internal/external stakeholders on potential lines for further financial enquiries.
• Providing advice and support to fellow professionals within the team/Crown Counsel in relation to internally and externally generated data and reports.
• Attending court, as a witness in a professional capacity.
• Examination of accounting and business records, including financial statements of business entities and their supporting books and records.
• Providing accounting expertise to internal and external stakeholders to assist in complex financial criminal cases.
• Providing accounting expertise to internal stakeholders to assist in cases involving quantification of fines.
• Attending court as a witness in an expert or professional capacity
• Line management responsibility for Financial Analyst(s)

Training will be provided to support successful candidates.

Essential Criteria Required

As well as the competencies contained within the application pack:

• Applicants must be CCAB qualified with demonstrable Forensic Accountancy experience, preferably gained in an investigative/law enforcement environment
• Successful candidates will require to be security vetted to SC level
• Literacy and fluency in English
• Sound knowledge of IT software packages
• Excellent communication and engagement skills with demonstrable experience of communicating at all levels verbally and in writing
• Be an effective, strong team leader and be aware of and recognise the needs, development and pressures of others
• Be able to communicate effectively and sensitively with all internal and external stakeholders across the public and private sector
• Analysis of complex information and drafting clear narratives and conclusions
• Ability to work on your own initiative, prioritising a diverse workload across a team, showing judgement in reaching decisions and meeting challenging deadlines

Desirable Criteria

• A knowledge and understanding of the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002
• Experience of giving evidence in court
