Risk & Intelligence Service (RIS) Software Engineering

The RIS Software Engineering Team are professionally accredited developers who provide a wealth of expertise and experience within the world of computer sciences.

We build internal IT solutions to help our colleagues in RIS and across Customer Compliance achieve their goals and objectives; this can take the form of short/long term projects to build bespoke software systems or more targeted development aimed at solving a particular problem. Whatever we do our aim is to improve processes, create efficiencies, produce resource savings or improve data security.

As lead developer, you will be responsible for the operational stability of the software and be in a position to effect the change in the ongoing stability of those systems.

You will oversee the design and development of new software systems and the support of existing RIS/HMRC systems including the Net Framework, Microsoft Office Products and SQL Databases.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a Software Engineer with excellent technical skills who has experience of designing and building software solutions and a track record of coaching and mentoring other developers.

Your key responsibilities will be:

• Acting as the technical lead for national projects, with responsibility for delivering secure, reliable and scalable software.
• Designing new software using appropriate tools and in line with standards, proving designs through prototyping
• Working with other software engineers to deliver new capability, for instance improved proof of concepts in new technology.
• Managing the maintenance of our current estate of tools, performing fixes and changes as required.

Essential criteria:

• Proven leadership experience of software development life cycle via agile project methodologies.
• Broad experience of coding languages across a wide range of technologies and development methodologies.
• Ability to quickly research and learn new programming tools and techniques.
• Understanding of a range of front-end development
• Comprehensive understanding of SQL databases, database architecture, relational database and integrity constraints.

Desirable criteria:

We have interests in the following technologies:

AWS, VBA, .NET, C#, JavaScript, SQL, Low Code platforms

Experience in any of these technologies would be beneficial.
