Island Health Hiring for Lead, Pandemic Prevention and Response at Nanaimo, BC Full Time

Job Description:
In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Island Health ( Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Director, Long-term Care COVID-19 Response, the Lead, Pandemic Prevention and Response is responsible for acting as the outbreak management lead at long-term care and assisted living homes during COVID-19 outbreaks or enhanced surveillance. During outbreak deployments, the Lead applies policy and makes decisions that affect long-term care operations in order to ensure the safety of staff and residents during the outbreak. The Lead is responsible for supporting sites to operationalize public health instructions in outbreak management, which often pose significant operational and staffing challenges. The Lead is the key point of contact between an outbreak site and the long-term care leadership team, and plays a pivotal role in ensuring that outbreaks are responded to promptly and in alignment with organizational priorities. The Lead is responsible for providing COVID-19 preparedness education and coaching to staff in long-term care homes (affiliate and owned-operated sites) throughout the region and/or Health Authority.

The Lead is a contributing member of the Department’s Quality Assurance and Contract Monitoring Team and may participate in processes that determine both Departmental and operational and strategic objectives. The Lead may provide education and coaching to long-term care home staff on key quality improvement initiatives (e.g., fall prevention, wound care).

The position is geographically nimble and will work throughout the region and potentially the Health Authority. Travel is a requirement of this position and transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health. The position may be required to travel to and work at sites with active COVID-19 outbreaks.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience

A level of training, education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field and five (5) years recent, related experience. Knowledge and experience with long-term care, assisted living and/or infection prevention and control preferred. Valid BC Driver’s Licence.
