About The Position
The Immigrant Education Society (TIES) is seeking a part-time LINC CNC Educator to provide professional care for Newcomer Children under the guidance and leadership of the lead CNC educator. This position is 14 hours per week, Monday-Thursday, within the Languages Department and reports to the Senior Coordinator, Languages & Childminding.
Requirements
- Minimum Level 1/childcare assistant certificate
- At least 1 year of childcare working experience
- Valid first-aid certificate
- Clear police check with vulnerable sector check within 6 months prior to employment
- Valid food safety certificate
- Valid Tetanus and Diphtheria Vaccination
- Valid clear Tuberculosis test result
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Team player
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity
- A genuine concern and care for children
Responsibilities
- Report directly to LINC/CNC Coordinator.
- Be familiar with childminding licensing regulations/policy/rules, CIES childminding administrative manual and CIES employee policies and observe them in daily operations.
- Prepare the room appropriately before the children arrive. Ensure children play and rest in a safe environment. If detecting any hazards, report to your supervisor immediately.
- Be in the room and ready to accept and supervise the children at the scheduled time.
- Greet the parents when they drop off and pick up the children in a professional manner.
- Open files for new children and close files when children depart from the program as requested.
- Check the children for injuries and illness as they arrive. Record children’s daily attendance, activities, and health status.
- Ensure all children are signed in and signed out properly every day.
- Ensure children are always supervised.
- Update and maintain records related to children and program.
- Monitor all entrances and exits at all times. The doors to childminding rooms need to be locked at all times. Only childminders may unlock and open the doors.
- Supervise the children’s daily activities and routines.
- Monitor the children’s behavior and intervene as needed.
- Inspect and maintain toys and equipment. Provide variety of toys, activities and limit children numbers at the same activity.
- Respond sensitively to the cultural heritage, values and individual experiences of the children.
- Behave appropriately with children, individually and in groups.
- Communicate with parents. Listen to parents when they have concerns about their child(ren), respect families’ traditions, their childcare practices, and different cultures.
- Plan a program that respects the values, customs and traditions of the enrolled children.
- Assume an equal share of housekeeping responsibilities.
- Provide orientation to the new children’s parent(s)/guardian(s). Prepare, complete, and document the children’s file. Update the information in the files, e.g. vaccination, contact information, closing.
- Children are only allowed to be taken out by the parent(s) or guardian(s) registered with us.
- Children need to be attended to at all times during the period when they are signed in. No children are allowed to walk out of the childminding room alone.
- No visitors other than your supervisor, the registered parents/guardians, and the guests permitted by your supervisor are allowed to enter the childminding rooms.
- Childminders are responsible for ensuring doors are properly closed and locked when the parents or the permitted visitors leave the room.
- Learn all the children’s names by heart. Count the number of the children every fifteen minutes or more frequently if necessary.
- Plan/provide age appropriate activities and record daily activities/planning log, and fire drills.
- Demonstrate as a role model example to all children. Keep childminding room tidy and clean. Dump dirty diapers every day.
- Treat children with respect and be sensitive to children’s individual needs.
- Encourage acceptable behavior (for example, a child who is coloring on the wall would be brought to a table and given paper and verbally encouraged to color on it instead).
- Set reasonable and clear rules and limits for behavior and remind the children of the rules and limits when needed.
- Redirect a child to try other activities if he/she has been unable to play appropriately in the present activity.
- Encourage cooperative play and practice patience and use praise to encourage appropriate behavior.
- Be aware of the signs or symptoms of abuse or contagious illnesses.
- Document accident/incident reports or other necessary documents and communicate with the parents and your supervisor.
- Prepare and submit monthly report to your supervisor.
- Give blankets to parents to clean each Friday or earlier if the children are not in on Friday.
- Behaviors not permitted: physical punishment (hitting, slapping, spanking, pinching or other); verbal abuse (yelling, degrading or the use of harsh words); withdrawing from or depriving a child of a basic need (food, water, sleep or shelter); isolating or confining a child.
- Be willing to travel between two locations when required.
- Be willing to relocate to another location for the needs of program operations should it arise.
- Read the internal memos, which can be found in a binder in the library.
- Perform other related duties of a CNC Educator as requested by supervisor.
