Senior Instructional Systems Designer
Headquartered in Washington, D.C., Softek Services, Inc. offers more than 30 years of experience in providing custom training and IT solutions to public, private, and non-profit organizations. Our specialty is bringing people and processes together.
We are looking to add a rock star senior-level instructional systems designer with proficient technical writing skills to our team. We have several contracts with federal agencies that involve converting instructor-led training (ILT) to web-based training (WBT) with highly engaging deliveries. We are seeking candidates who can help us create dynamic, engaging, exciting learning content with an emphasis on user-centered design and accessibility for all learners. This requires candidates to use innovative approaches to lead efforts in instructional design and delivery of projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Manage and lead course development and design processes
· Contribute to leadership on instructional design best practices and implementation of blended learning, including identifying and implementing innovative technologies and approaches
· Review and analyze existing materials and research other sources of information
· Evaluate what needs to be changed, updated, reorganized and included for the new materials
· Develop or curate new content using the science of instructional design strategies
· Conduct learning assessments to determine the most effective learning activities and course designs that align with the course requirements
· Develop clear and concise storyboards, including graphics concepts, audio scripts, user interactions, navigation, and other related elements
· Align course revisions with the stated learning outcomes for the course
· Work effectively with client subject matter experts (SMEs). Gather and assimilate their input for design and content revisions
· Recommend innovative design ideas and high-interest activities
· Create (or direct graphic designer to create) visual aids including infographics, charts, graphs, and videos that effectively communicate meaning
· Design practice activities and develop scenario-based prompts that require critical thinking
· Create knowledge checks and performance-based assessments that support learning outcomes
· Participate in proposal development efforts, evaluate requirements, help formulate ideas, write content to express ideas.
Required Education
· Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and eight or more years’ experience in instructional design
· Degree in Education, Curriculum Design, Organizational Development, Adult Learning, Instructional Design, International Development, or related field.
Required Skills
· Ability to demonstrate competence in analysis to identify appropriate learning level of course objective and content
· Ability to compare position tasks to course objectives and content to identify gaps in content or learning level in course materials.
· Ability to delegate specific instructional design tasks to your team and incorporate each person’s contributions to create a complete instructional program.
· Experience and working knowledge of at least one rapid development tool (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Articulate Presenter, Adobe Captivate)
· Proficiency with word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation tools (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
· Superior use of the English language including the ability to read, comprehend, and communicate information and ideas effectively.
· Ability to demonstrate teaching skills to design effective instructional programs.
· Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and work in a fast-paced and agile environment as a team player
· Ability to identify and frame problems, set priorities, and make critical assessments
· Ability to be able confidently engage with staff at all levels to define needs and expectations, collaborate on projects, and communicate results
· Experience writing short technical reports

Job Location: Primarily remote work but must be able to meet with clients, conduct one-week focus groups, and attend pilot courses onsite at client location when necessary.
