Should you join us, your first assignment will be at a university research center collaborating with the school of earth sciences as a full-time research software engineer building a web-facing, reference database for sources of released chemicals. In this role, you will work closely with scientists to construct a comprehensive database and web interfaces. Combined database and tools will extend beyond what is available today including our current AI initiatives and global research initiatives.

The research center’s dynamic team delivers research computing and data services to a diverse community of faculty, students and staff. Reporting to our client’s CIO and Dean of Research means working with other research units and service organizations to enhance your research experiences. Daily interaction with teams will help you grow your expertise and insights in how best to translate researchers’ needs into viable technical solutions.

Requirements:

• Masters or Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
• Experience designing and implementing scalable database and server-side APIs and data visualization websites
• Demonstrated focus on continuous improvement of systems, software, and processes through data analysis and evaluation

Responsibilities:

• Lead development of an approach to construct a public database source infrastructure, either by developing a new platform or integrating with an existing platform like OpenStreetMap.
• Design the data storage system for the source database.
• Build efficient, scalable, and intuitive front-end applications that will interface with large-scale geospatial data.

Ideally you will have some of these skills as well:

• Experience working with large-scale geospatial data visualization
• Background or experience in the physical sciences

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Salary: $50.00 – $60.00 per hour
