JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager, Centre for Instructional Support, this position provides

educational technology support and consultation to faculty members, manages CIS web services (website, help ticket system) and, develops and implements scripts and programs to assist faculty in the use of UBC’s Learning Management System.

ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS

Reports to the Manager, Centre for Instructional Support. The Educational Technologist will

work closely with the other members of the Centre for Instructional Support. This position coordinates with other Instructional Support Centre staff, as well as learning management professionals from other units on campus, to address teaching and learning needs of the University Community. The Educational Technologist will contribute to a team that supports development and deployment of online course components and provides educational technology support for faculty members.

WORK PERFORMED

Consults with faculty clients to analyze needs and advises, encourages, and supports faculty members in the selection of educational technologies appropriate to meet pedagogical goals.

Provides expert and advanced advice on technical problems with the learning management systems and other educational technologies (i.e. blogs, wikis, classroom response systems, peer assessment tools, etc.)

Monitors and documents service delivery, identifies issues, resolves and/or escalates them appropriate.

Documents and streamlines learning technologies support processes and procedures.

Develops learning materials to train faculty and CIS staff on the use of new educational technologies

Maintain CIS web services – website, blogs, help desk software.

Develop and deploys software and scripts to better leverage functionality in Learning Management System

Performs other related duties as required

Errors in judgment may result in the inefficient use of resources, or lead to a substandard educational experiences for our students or faculty, and consequently may damage the image and reputation of the University, the Faculty of Applied Science, and the Centre for Instructional Support.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works independently and collaboratively under the general direction of the Manager, Centre for Instructional Support.

SUPERVISION GIVEN

Provides support to student workers and other staff in the Centre for Instructional Support.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of two years’ experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiarity with learning management systems and various educational technologies (i.e. blogs, wikis, classroom response systems, iPeer, Turnitin, Qualtrics, Piazza, Kaltura, etc.) required. Demonstrated understanding of academic culture and the nature of adult learning. Strong professional communication and interpersonal skills for working with and leading workshops for faculty. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely regarding complex and/or technical matters. Demonstrated ability to adapt to change and work under pressure both independently and as part of a team. Strong attention to detail. Ability to balance creative, technical, analytical, and relationship building/interpersonal skills.
