Oxford City Council’s Youth Ambition Team delivers an awarding winning programme and is part of the Community Service area. The work of the team links into the Council’s Children and Young People’s Strategy and supports our corporate goal of creating strong, active Communities.

We are looking to recruit a new Youth Worker that will focus on using mentoring to support young people and develop a programme of mentoring across the Council. The young people we work with are aged 11-19 (or up to the age of 25 if they have physical or learning difficulties) and we target certain priority groups who are more likely to be disadvantaged or vulnerable.

You will develop a robust programme for mentoring that focusses on tackling the issues that have increased during the pandemic, involving young people in the development. As well as mentoring young people and scheduling mentoring for other Youth Ambition staff, you will create a mentoring programme across the Council that utilises the many service area skills, to support a diverse range of young people to fulfil their potential. The successful candidate will evaluate the programme and develop a sustainable mentoring scheme.

We asked some of the people involved in previous projects what skills, experience and character they would like the Youth Worker to have. They said the ideal candidate should have a friendly, fun and happy personality and previous experience of working with children and young people.
