Granger is seeking a Controller to lead the charge on taking our cost accounting practices to the next level with our balance scorecard approach to continued growth and improvement. This individual in this new level of management will be responsible for the collection, management and reporting of all financial related activities in a cost accounting environment.

SUCCESS IN THIS POSITION INCLUDES the following:

• Creating financial “pictures” that tell the story of current trends and opportunities for improvement
• Leading by example, taking an active role in completing monthly and annual reporting and striving for continuous improvement
• Being recognized as the accounting expert and go-to person for problem solving and creative solutions

• Successfully managing a fast-paced team to work collaboratively, produce timely and accurate information and have some fun along the way

Accounting Management Duties:

• Oversee all accounting functions, including fixed asset, cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll, providing hands-on assistance as needed
• Play an active role in the daily processing of accounting information, including performing general ledger functions, reviewing and analyzing financial information and helping prepare financial statements and other reports
• Perform month and year-end closing processes

• Responsible for audit management and coordination of or completion of all government forms and processes
• Review trial balances and look for trend and value anomalies, missing information and mis-classified transactions; take follow-up action as appropriate
• Validate created journal entries were posted correctly in Granger’s accounting software
• Act in a backup capacity to all accounting associates, including completing some of their normal job duties during times when they are off work or in need of support due to time-sensitive deadlines

Software Management Duties:

• Ensure accounting team is playing an effective role in data management of the software used for the accounting team, purchasing team and the customer service team
• Learn and understand the software programs to help facilitate reporting, interpreting outputs and assisting with dashboarding
• Work with the IT team to troubleshoot and make continuous software upgrades and improvements

Other Essential Duties:

• Encourage and build mutual trust, respect and cooperation within your specific team and across all functional areas
• Provide ongoing feedback in various forms to praise, give constructive criticism and help all succeed in their perspective roles to include performance reviews, goal setting and regular check-ins
• Manage the workload and calendar demands of the accounting function to ensure effective work-life balance across the accounting team

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or accounting-related field
• 5+ years’ experience in accounting management role strongly preferred
• Prior cost accounting experience preferred
• Advanced Excel skills required
• Proven success creating accounting-related processes and procedures strongly preferred

• Project management experience strongly preferred
