Job Overview

We are seeking a Director of Finance & Accounting to help build and lead the company’s Finance & Accounting team. This role will work as a close partner to the CFO in evolving the company’s finance & accounting team, building sustainable and robust business processes and ensuring accuracy and integrity in the company’s financial systems, policies and procedures.

The individual must be a well-rounded finance leader whose experience includes increasingly responsible positions, preferably with high-growth, product-based companies. S/he needs to be a strategic thinker who can identify novel solutions to issues but also with the implementation skills to bring these solutions to fruition by working across the organization, collaborating with others and ensuring execution through direct, hands-on involvement in any required change efforts.

The successful candidate should have excellent technical finance and accounting skills and be capable of managing across all financial areas, including all aspects of general accounting, A/R, A/P, inventory control and management, external and internal financial reporting, financial planning & analysis (FP&A), income and sales taxes, and ERP / financial systems. Experience building organizational capabilities and skills are critical and should include the demonstrated ability to develop and manage a team of finance professionals capable of adapting and growing with the company.

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Oversee and drive the month-end close processes for multiple entities including reviewing and approving journal entries and account reconciliations
• Review and sign off on monthly trial balance and financial statements
• Review and maintain internal controls, enforcing proper authorization and accurate recording of all transactions to ensure reporting integrity and minimize risk
• Manage balance sheet and income statement variance analysis for internal and external management reporting
• Coordinate tax documentation and filing with outside CPA firm for multiple legal entities, including real estate LLCs, trusts and owners’ personal entities
• Ensure sales tax structure is compliant with all relevant state requirements
• Oversee all management reporting including assessing and making improvements to the existing reporting tools as well as designing and implementing upgrades to the accounting and reporting systems and structure
• Put in place policies and procedures to ensure best in class accuracy and documentation; communicate and train constituents on these policies and procedures and ensure adherence
• Lead the team in providing financial analysis and support to key internal customer groups (e.g., Sales, Operations, Product Development and Production/Sourcing) and partner with them to drive improved business visibility and decision making
• Oversee, direct and provide leadership, guidance and training to the finance & accounting team

Job Qualifications / Skills Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, or a related field required, MBA preferred
• CPA and/or audit experience required
• 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, ideally in fast growth, product-based companies
• In-depth knowledge of US GAAP and inventory accounting including product costing
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial reports and legal documents
• Experience leading and building FP&A capabilities across the business
• Excellent planning and analytical skills
• Exceptional advanced Excel skills including ability to build and maintain financial models
• Direct, hands-on ERP systems experience (Sage X3 experience a plus) including ability to build and develop reporting tools
• Demonstrable communication and influencing skills to work across all levels of the organization
• Exceptional listening and collaboration skills
