Life Enrichment Coordinator, Independent Living: Full Time Monday Through Friday: 40 hours. Able to work flexible hours, such as during evenings, weekends, and holidays for planned activity events as needed.
Life Enrichment Coordinator Job Description:
The Atrium at The Cedars, independent living within a non-profit senior living community in Portland Maine, is seeking a Life Enrichment Coordinator. This position is responsible for developing, organizing, and implementing lifestyle programs for the residents that embrace a stimulating wellness program. Fitness classes include water aerobics in our indoor pool, cardiovascular exercise and strength training to our motivated group of older adults. This position also acts as a resource to the Member Council and involves driving a twelve-passenger vehicle for resident outings.
Responsibilities and Duties:
· Coordinate, supervise and lead daily/evening/weekend programming in accordance with the interests and ability of each member.
· Plan, schedule and conduct Lifestyle programs that provide physical, intellectual, social, emotional and spiritual opportunities and challenges for the members.
· Prepares and organizes a calendar of activities/events maintaining a balance of recreational activities, including trips, lectures, and entertainment socials/cocktails parties, exercises, creative arts, and religious services. Posts and distributes the activity calendar, one week prior to the start of the new month.
· Direct outreach and networking to outside organizations, service groups and volunteers to solicit groups for entertainment.
· Conduct safe and effective exercise classes designed to address cardiovascular strength, muscular strength, flexibility, range of motion, balance, coordination, and well-being. Classes include aerobics in our indoor pool, cardiovascular exercise, strength training and stretching.
· Provide exercise modifications for different levels of fitness and skill for resident’s safety and success.
· Accompany residents on outings and community excursions, driving residents in the 12-passenger bus up to 25-mile destinations.
· Conduct initial life history and recreational assessments with each new member to introduce Activities/Wellness program and learn of member’s own personal interests and likes/dislikes.
· Encourage members to attend the activities/events and builds enthusiasm for the programs.
· Provide relief coverage for the member services and front desk staff as needed.

Qualifications and Skills
· Be at least 21 years of age
· Strong customer service and interpersonal skills especially as it relates to addressing the social/recreational needs of the elderly and providing choice. A passion for working with older adults
· Must be able to push, pull, move and / or lift a minimum of 25-30 pounds and be able to push, pull, move and / or carry weight a minimum distance of 50 feet, and push occupied wheelchairs.
Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field. Completion of State-approved course for Personal Trainer by a recognized accrediting body.
· Three years’ experience working with a senior population in a health fitness or recreation therapy position.
· Three years’ experience developing and implementing an appropriate age-related activity/event program.
· Certification to teach/instruct in fitness, weight training, aerobics and/or adaptive aquatics.
· CPR and First Aid Certified
