The Role

As a Control Room Operator, you will play a key role in monitoring and managing Scotland’s trunk road and motorway network, helping to keep road users informed and traffic moving safely and efficiently.

Please note: This is not a security industry position.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor the Scottish trunk road network using CCTV and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)
• Manage both planned and emergency incidents across the network
• Operate variable message signs, motorway signalling systems and traffic signals
• Liaise with partner agencies including Police Scotland, road operating companies, roadside engineers, Transport Scotland and the Met Office
• Provide accurate and timely travel information through the Traffic Scotland website, social media channels and stakeholder reporting

Working Pattern

• Full-time (average 40 hours per week)
• Rotating shift pattern: 2 day shifts, 2 night shifts, followed by 4 days off
• 12-hour shifts
• Includes weekends and public holidays

Skills & Experience Required

• Standard Grade, GCSE or equivalent qualification
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a customer service, control room or operational environment
• Strong written communication skills
• Clear verbal communication ability
• Good geographical knowledge of Scotland and its trunk road and motorway network
• Applicants should live within reasonable commuting distance of South Queensferry
