As a Director in Finance Branch, you will lead a multi-functional finance team in a high-profile, fast-paced environment. You will work closely with varied stakeholders, including the Senior Executive Service, our shared service clients; the National Indigenous Australians Agency and National Recovery and Resilience Agency, and other portfolio agencies.

Our teams within Finance Branch are responsible for:

• external and statutory reporting including the department’s financial statements, and the department’s asset control framework, tax management, and treasury functions
• the delivery of PM&C’s internal and external budget and costing new policy proposals
• contributing to complex and sensitive correspondence such as advice to Senate Estimates briefs, Question Time briefs, Questions on Notice, incorporating insights and analysis to support decision making on the internal financial management of the department including reporting to the executive on the department’s financial position, and
• the delivery of management accounting advice and support to groups and divisions to ensure PM&C leaders can make well informed decisions.

A merit list will be established for any future vacancies across Finance Branch.

Duties of the position include:

• Provide sound financial management and financial accounting advice to the COO Division and the Executive on a variety of financial and business issues.
• Assist where possible in the preparation of budget costings, new policy proposals and financial submissions for consideration by the Executive and Government.
• Provide independent assessment and recommendations to the Executive on the strategic view of the financial environment, future budgets and business issues.
• Provide high-level representation at both internal and multi-agency meetings and forums.
• Prepare a range of written material including various reports, Cabinet and Senate Estimates submissions, and ministerial and department briefs.
• Exercise strong leadership, relationship and management skills, play a key role in implementing continuous improvement processes and be proactive in implementing and driving change.
• Manage and lead a team, including providing clear and consistent communication, setting clear performance and behavioural standards, managing performance, delegating responsibility and guiding and developing people.

Relevant finance qualifications (CPA, CA) are required for roles undertaking financial accounting. Relevant finance qualifications are desirable but not essential, for other roles.
