Interior Goods Direct Limited is a highly successful e-commerce retailer with a portfolio of 10 brands. Based between Huddersfield and Wakefield, we are currently seeking a highly motivated backend web developer to join our team.

We are looking for a passionate individual who is excited by solving real world problems by programming. Being a strong developer, you will want to learn and gain a broader experience of running an e-commerce platform turning over £40m per year.

Job Description

Your primary focus will be development and maintenance of new and existing systems. In addition, we have a few systems running on legacy frameworks which you’ll be responsible for migrating. We believe in creating the best systems for our business and as such most are bespoke and built by us rather than off the shelf solutions.

We are a large manufacturing business – some days you will be working on customer facing products such as our flagship Blinds Direct website. Some days you’ll be working on internal efficiency tools which help our colleagues in the factory.

Key responsibilities and duties – daily tasks will include but not be limited to:

• Working with the existing team to develop and maintain systems in Laravel and CakePHP. There will be a scope of both green field & brown field project work.
• Working systematically with other members of the team to improve the performance of the eCommerce websites in terms of aesthetics, functionality and conversion rates.
• Developing in house systems to aid in productivity and profitability for other colleagues
• Investigating, finding and resolving bugs in the code base and applying these fixes across our sites.
• Advancing your own career by learning and developing your technical knowledge.

Person Specification – essential requirements are as follows:

· Eligibility to work legally in the UK

Essential Skills

• Object orientated development
• Experience with PHP & relational databases (MySQL or similar)
• Experience (at least 3 years) working with Laravel
• Familiarity of working with building and consuming APIs
• Strong attention to detail
• Team player – must be able to work effectively, both individually and as part of a team
• Passion and interest in programming
• Willingness to challenge the status quo – we love out of the box thinkers and want all employees to try find better ways of working across the business

Desirable Skills

• Experience of using code versioning software e.g Git, SVN
• Unit Testing, Integration Testing, Acceptance Testing
• Experience of using Composer or other package management tools
• Familiar with PSR-2 coding standard
• Database design
• Experience of front-end technologies (JS, CSS)
• Experience of working in a fast-paced e-commerce environment
