Amazon Managed Workflows for Apache Airflow (MWAA) is a managed orchestration service for Apache Airflow that makes it easier to set up and operate end-to-end data pipelines in the cloud at scale. If you share our passion for workflow orchestration at scale, cutting edge software development on server-less architecture and a commitment to contribute back to Apache Airflow open-source community, then we may just have a role for you.
We are looking for a software development manager to lead feature development for Amazon MWAA and open-source Apache Airflow. This role requires ownership, autonomy, and an ability to deliver results. You should be a self-starter with a bias towards independent problem solving. Clear communication and prioritization will be important as you partner with Product Management to plan, and deliver experiences for customers of Amazon MWAA. You have a passion for managing complex technology projects and helping the team make strong business judgments.
How do you know if you are a good fit for us? You are fascinated by the challenge of building innovative, global-scale software systems. You value the purposefulness and connect to customers in every action, decision and code delivered. You are inspired by difficult problems and by quickly finding solutions that will stand the test of time. You relish the opportunity to take active ownership for building and operating a service that delights customers. You have a passion for open-source software and relish the opportunity to engage and build software together with the Apache Airflowcommunity.
Why do we believe that we are a good fit for you? You’ll be part of a team with smart leaders and engineers who value empathy, inclusion and thought diversity. We set ourselves a high bar on people-first practices and we strive everyday to help each other and our customers to be successful. We embrace the spirit of community driven development and have a core tenet to make Airflow the best workflow orchestration offering for all Airflow users irrespective of whether they use the managed service or self deploy.

Work/Life Balance
Our team puts a high value on work-live balance. It isn’t about how many hours you spend at home or at work; it’s about the flow you establish that brings energy to both parts of your life. We believe striking the right balance between your personal and professional life is critical to life-long happiness and fulfillment. We offer flexibility in working hours and encourage you to find your own balance between your work and personal lives.
This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week every two months. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the root cause so that we don’t get paged for the same issue twice.
Mentorship & Career Growth
Our team is dedicated to supporting new members. We have a broad mix of experience levels and tenures, and we’re building an environment that celebrates knowledge sharing and mentorship. Our senior members enjoy one-on-one mentoring and thorough, but kind, code reviews. We care about your career growth and strive to assign projects based on what will help each team member develop into a better-rounded engineer and enable them to take on more complex tasks in the future.
