HEAD OF COMMERCIAL FINANCE – AGRIBUSINESS

Purpose of the role

As our Head of Commercial Finance – Agribusiness, you are a key member of the finance leadership team reporting to the CFO, business partner with the Chief Agribusiness Officer and their direct reports to provide sound financial advice to enable good commercial decisions to be made.

This role supports 8 feedmills along with all breeder and broiler farms, hatcheries and the remaining farming network across AU including supply chain costs to plant.

This role also provides commercial support and input into strategic decision making for commodity purchases across AU and NZ and is a member of the Commodity Risk Committee.

Accountabilities

Analysis, Reporting and Budgeting

• Delivering accurate and relevant business insights of operational performance, to strive for least cost and identifying potential cost savings by analysing actuals, historical and forecasted cost bases;
• Benchmarking the performance of each site taking in to account relative capacities and capital expenditure required;
• Reviewing customer profitability and providing input into external feed pricing decisions on a monthly basis;
• Providing analytical support around commodity hedging and OTC contracts;
• Coordinating and preparing annual budgets in an efficient and timely manner for raw materials, feedmills, external feed sales and the farming network and providing inputs to the sales team on assumptions on pricing. Ensuring the budgets delivered reflect key assumptions that are consistent amongst the wider business;
• Reporting on key farming performance metrics to provide operational leaders with timely data in order to enable decisions to be made in a fast paced environment

Commodity Risk Management

• In conjunction with the GM Commodities, developing the pack for the monthly Commodity Risk Committee meeting, providing input into key decisions required, reporting on compliance to the policy, maintaining breach registers and ensuring meeting minutes are kept;
• Reviewing and providing input into changes required to the policy in line with the annual policy review process.

Network Planning

• Prepare, critique and analyse business cases for strategic network planning outcomes including assessment of whether the projects are stay in business, or growth projects with appropriate internal hurdles being met;
• Provide input into capital expenditure decisions and control around timing of capitalisations/cash flow management/rationale for overspend etc.
• Lead the negotiations with external parties on asset divestments or acquisition as they relate to Agribusiness.

Team culture and capability

• Develop, grow and engage staff both within own team and wider finance team to attract and retain teams to improve culture
• Develop the teams understanding of the business, and provide opportunities for cross training and personal development in line with their goals

Process Improvement

• Liaise with wider business stakeholders to simplify and improve processes to deliver a more efficient and effective outcome for the business;
• Providing input into the future systems and processes across Agribusiness and Finance, as part of the wider Business Transformation program

Skills required

• Experience in using systems for data analytics and or reporting;
• Ability to analyse data and translate it into business insights;
• An understanding of OTC hedge contracts, as well as a grasp of hedge accounting;
• Self-assured verbal and written communication skills, with good stakeholder engagement;
• High personal accountability with an ability to meet deadlines and manage work demands;
• Proactive business partner with the ability to challenge to ensure the most optimal business outcome is being achieved;
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills;
• Solid attention to detail with strong numeracy skills;
• Ability to motivate and manage teams to strive for a common goal and to meet relevant deadlines.
