About Sierra Club Canada Foundation
The Sierra Club of Canada Foundation (SCCF) is Canada’s national grassroots environmental organisation working on environmental advocacy, conservation, and education.
With a membership base across the country, we are committed to empowering people to be leaders in protecting, restoring, and enjoying healthy and safe ecosystems.
At its heart SCCF is a grassroots organisation, with a “think globally and act locally” philosophy. SCCF’s framework allows members to actively contribute to environmental causes that concern or inspire them, in a capacity that best suits their capabilities. Engaging with local officials, working collaboratively with local organisations, and a strong volunteer base has allowed Sierra Club to successfully engage in environmental campaigns that directly benefit both people and the planet.
Project Summary
The Community Energy Research Assistant (the Assistant) will support SCCF’s work within the Atlantic Offshore Wind Coalition (AOSWC). The AOSWC is a partnership between SCCF, Ecology Action Centre, and East Coast Environmental Law to support the renewable energy transition by advancing responsible offshore wind development as a key part of Atlantic Canada’s clean energy future. The AOSWC is committed to engaging in genuine, fact-based conversations about a future that includes offshore wind. Our work rests on three foundational pillars — Respect, Regulation, and Responsibility — guiding our decisions, engagement, and collaboration.
The Assistant will report to the Offshore Wind Coordinator – Newfoundland and Labrador, and will be responsible for researching, analyzing, synthesizing, and developing communications materials on topics related to offshore wind, electricity transmission, and community benefits and engagement for renewable energy projects in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Assistant’s work will contribute to specific AOSWC outputs including but not limited to: a frequently asked questions document about offshore wind and transmission in Newfoundland and Labrador; community benefit guidelines for offshore wind; proactive communications materials about offshore wind; and research reports on building energy democracy in Atlantic Canada.
