Robotics Engineer 1 (Co-op │ Intern | Early Career)
Tario Marine Technologies is a Toronto-based startup developing autonomous surface vessels for water sports, coastal monitoring, and search & rescue. Our goal: bring intelligent, AI-powered marine technology to Canada’s 243,000 km of coastline — and beyond.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
• Build hardware prototypes — integrate GPS receivers, radio modules, thrusters, cameras, and IMU sensors into waterproof marine platforms
• Write Python control systems for autonomous navigation, station-keeping (PID control), and sensor fusion
• Test on the water — weekly deployments at on Lake Ontario
• Work with AI tools daily — Claude Code / Codex Agents, and simulation environments are standard parts of the workflow
• Own systems end-to-end — from wiring power systems to tuning control algorithms to analyzing telemetry data
WHAT YOU BRING
Required:
• Strong Python (asyncio a plus)
• Comfortable with electronics: power wiring (12V DC), serial protocols (UART, I2C, USB), sensor integration
• GPS, IMU, or similar sensor experience
• Control systems fundamentals — PID, state estimation
• macOS or Linux command line
• Self-directed problem solver
Bonus:
• ROS 2 experience
• OpenCV or computer vision
• LoRa, mesh networking, or RF communication
• 3D printing / CAD (Onshape, Fusion 360)
• Marine or sailing experience
• Embedded systems (ARM, RTOS, Nordic nRF)
WHY THIS IS DIFFERENT
• AI-first engineering — every engineer works alongside AI tools
• Full-stack hardware — you’ll solder, wire, waterproof, and deploy real systems
• Zero to water in one summer — your work will be floating on Lake Ontario
• Founder-direct — work directly with the founder, no management layers
• Toronto waterfront — testing in GTA on Lake Ontario. Beats a cubicle.
DETAILS
• Term: Summer 2026 (May–September, flexible) – (Full Time Long Term Positions also available)
• Type: Co-op, internship, or short-term contract
• Location: Toronto, ON — hybrid
• Compensation: Competitive hourly rate
